Providing both university and TAFE courses to around 30,000 students, Victoria University is a dual-sector tertiary institution. Established as Footscray Technical School in 1916, it was granted university status in 1990. VU has several campuses in the Melbourne CBD and suburbs (and one in Sydney), which host six academic colleges, six research institutes, seven research centres, and Victoria Polytechnic, charged with providing much of the TAFE training. Sporting legends like Ron Barassi, Andrew Gaze and Nathan Buckley have attended VU, which partners with a number of professional sports teams to study biomechanics, health and business.
