Western Australia’s sandstone university – the state’s oldest – the University of Western Australia came into being with the stroke of a parliamentary pen in 1911. Students at UWA walk in the shadows of some prominent Australians, with the uni boasting over 100 Rhodes scholars, five high court justices, two Nobel Laureates, one Fields medallist and one Prime Minister (Bob Hawke) amongst its alumni and faculty. The 65ha Crawley campus sits pride of place on the Swan River, looking out towards South Perth and the CBD. UWA commonly ranks amongst the top 10 unis in Australia, and the top 100 in the world.
