In 1958, at the age of 26, Dellys Kelly drove from Toowoomba to Canberra to campaign for a university in her area. She arrived and asked to speak with the then Prime Minister Robert Menzies, who surprisingly obliged, but wouldn’t support the issue until she raised £30,000. 11 weeks later, thanks to community support, she’d done just that. The pioneering spirit that helped to establish USQ can be seen to this day. Students at the Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich campuses work within ten research institutes and centres, focusing on a wealth of business, agricultural, scientific, environmental and technological issues.
