Founded in 1909, UQ is one of Australia’s six sandstone universities as the oldest in its state. Its extensive main campus is spread across the eastern half of the inner-Brisbane suburb of St Lucia, while other campuses are found in Herston and Gatton, and two outposts have been established in the US. UQ incorporates over 100 research centres and institutes, and counts the HPV (cervical cancer) vaccine and portable MRI machine amongst its recent successes. Two Nobel Laureates, 117 Rhodes Scholars and over 100 Olympians call themselves UQ alumni, and the university sits amongst Australia’s top five in most major rankings.
