Based in the regional city of Armidale in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, the University of New England was the first Australian university to be established outside of a state capital. It began life as a college in 1938, becoming a university in 1954. UNE is renowned for a number of research programs and centres, including Animal Genetics and Livestock Breeding, Rural Education, and Mathematics Education for Rural and Regional Australia. Its approximately 22,500 students give UNE the highest satisfaction rating amongst all of New South Wales’ public universities, at 83.2.
