A product of the Victorian Gold Rush, Federation University boasts a history that stretches back to 1870, making it Australia’s fourth-oldest tertiary education institution. Beginning as University of Ballarat, it was rebranded as FUA in 2014 to recognise the fact that its tentacles now stretched beyond regional Victoria. Nonetheless, the main campus is still found in Ballarat, and offers a wide range of undergraduate degrees in science, business, nursing, the arts, sport and even TAFE courses. Uniquely for a regional university, 80% of students study full-time and on campus, making for a vibrant atmosphere.
