Home to almost 60,000 students, Curtin University is Western Australia’s largest, and boasts international campuses in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Mauritius. It was established as Australia’s first university of technology, and conducts active research in a range of academic and practical fields. The Curtin Student Guild is a particularly prominent and influential organisation, organising campus life and operating most of the food, drink and commercial outlets on-site. Elections are tightly fought between the Illuminate, Progress, Left Action and Joke Ticket groups. Curtin counts TV host Carrie Bickmore, author Tim Winton, musician John Butler and federal politician Michaelia Cash amongst its alumni.
