A relatively young institution, Southern Cross University is spread across three campuses in Lismore, Coffs Harbour and the Gold Coast. Established in 1994 to service the North Coast of New South Wales, it was born out of Lismore Teachers’ College, an institution that had been serving the area since 1971. Here a broad range of postgraduate studies, including social sciences, tourism, health and law, are offered across nine research centres, six schools and two colleges. A little over 20,000 students are enrolled at SCU, many of whom are attracted by the National Marine Science Centre, which the university operates in Coffs Harbour.
