Role Purpose & Environment

The purpose of the Tier 2 IP Network Engineer is to ensure the continued operation of the Enterprise IP/MPLS Core, Edge and Access Network and related systems by engineering and implementing solutions for expansion, new products and failure incidents.

  • Provide level 2 technical support for the NOC, Customer Support and Service Delivery Teams
  • Provide operational support for Engineering and Architecture Teams
  • Manage network capacity as well as plan and implement network upgrades
  • Deploy and commission network infrastructure
  • Develop solutions to problems for new products and platforms 
  • Provide training and maintain documentation to internal teams on new products and platforms
  • Work on a rotating 24/7 on call roster for technical fault support
  • Implement after hours network maintenance and changes
  • Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering / Telco / IT related field or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years + of hands on design/deploy/operation of a large enterprise or service provider network
  • Professional level experience troubleshooting and configuring with CLI of at least Cisco IOS or equivalent
  • Professional level experience with L2 switching, MPLS and routing protocols including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MP-BGP
  • Experience with a variety of different vendors and networking platforms
  • Experience with a range of network monitoring and management tools
  • Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent preferred
