The Lifecycle Manager sits within Cloud and infrastructure department, to perform a very important role in managing the network infrastructure and will be responsible for how the network assets are administered within the environment and monitor and track their product lifecycle.
When vendors announce product end of life dates, both for software and hardware, this can usually mean a complex replacement, virtualisation, upgrade, consolidate or migration programme. This role requires you to facilitate these activities with the various business owners, as well as engaging the technical teams, present options to the Exec, liaise with finance/procurement for funding and oversee the design, delivery, and migration to the new platform.
What you'll do:
- Own of the budget for Opex P&L for support contracts and renewals, this involves working with finance and procurement to secure the best value renewal, pulling in the right technical and business stakeholders
- Verifying all required assets are on correct service level identified on a support contract
- As inventory owner and software versions knowledge across the estate, the role necessitates regular input into audit and compliance reports, and follow-on actions until all concerned raised are addressed.
- Take the lead within Sky Enterprise Networks for the processes for hardware and software lifecycle management
- Prepare business cases and ad-hoc presentations for managers and stakeholders to obtain funding and create projects.
- Manage a budget year on year; prepare forecasts and Capex requests for the finance team.
- Manage the decommissioning, recycling, and trade-in of network hardware, with focus on energy saving and green initiatives
- Work closely with the network designers/architects to identify opportunities to not only replace older hardware but optimise solution with all technologies available.
- Identify critical areas that are nearing or past end of life support and create a replacement plan.
What you'll bring:
- Solid knowledge of Cisco product portfolio and compatible products & knowledge of other technology vendors such as F5, Palo Alto, Radware. Fortinet and Arista is desirable.
- Knowledge and understanding of vendor’s end of sale/life policies and how that affects the operational support of the network.
- Strong knowledge of network management tools to extract inventory data and knowledge of inventory management practices and procedures preferable.
- Experience collating structured data from various sources and running queries and creating reports against that structured data and utilising strong analytical skills to create data presentations and work packages that will be presented to Exec Sponsors, finance and business stakeholders and customers. Experience in Microsoft Excel data to an advanced level is preferable
- Attention to detail with good cost modelling awareness
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage time effectively, good organisational skills
- Perform audits and data corrections to ensure inventory records are reliable, reconcile inventory discrepancies.
- Strong knowledge of ITIL framework and change processes & good communication skills, both verbal and written
Team overview:
It’s an exciting, varied, and challenging role, which gives an excellent overview and great understanding of the sky infrastructure and will involve working with lots of internal departments within Sky and multiple vendors. Currently this role is individual role reporting Enterprise Network manager directly but will sit along his 6 other direct reports and total team of 40+ operational engineers that you will work with daily.
