Do you have Science and Technology (S&T) skills and looking for your next opportunity that allows you to contribute to the nation’s largest ever capital investment in shipbuilding endeavours?

Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) offers diverse careers where you will have the opportunity to provide expert S&T skills and advice to inform key defence decisions and have a direct impact in ensuring the nations ongoing security.

DSTG’s 2022-23 Talent Register is seeking appropriately skilled and qualified individuals to fill ongoing (full time or part time) opportunities in support to National Naval Shipbuilding at S&T 3-4 and S&T 5 levels. Applicants who are willing to work from Western Australia, Victoria, Sydney and South Australia are encouraged to apply.

    What is National Naval Shipbuilding?
In its 2017 Naval Shipbuilding Plan, the Australian Government laid out an entirely new direction in the way Australia underpins its national security interests, through the establishment of a new, secure, sustainable, and continuous, National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise.

Modernisation of our naval forces is a complex, national endeavour and we are looking for talented individuals who are up to the challenge. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the interesting and important work that is at the front and centre for the Australian Government’s National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise.

Defence, through the Defence Science and Technology Group, is responsible for ensuring there is a coherent and robust research and development program that supports the Naval Shipbuilding Plan.

Defence Science and Technology Group is responsible for identifying high impact areas for Defence and monitoring emerging technologies to assess their potential impact on Defence capability with a focus on knowledge and innovation integration, strengthened through partnerships with industry and academia.

    Who should apply?
We are seeking talented people who can work collegiately, have a passion for applying their skills and knowledge to assist with the implementation of scientific and engineering methodologies to solve problems of considerable complexity, and want to deliver results for Defence.

Our ideal candidates will build, sustain, and work collaboratively with a network of internal and external stakeholders, understanding their needs and communicating high-quality scientific and engineering information to help assist with meeting timeframes and milestones.

You will engage across the Australian science, technology and innovation eco-system to pull together the interdisciplinary expertise required to support the national naval shipbuilding enterprise.

You must demonstrate good communication skills, commitment towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development, and be able to work independently, whilst ensuring the high-level of integration and consistency required to achieve outcomes for Defence.

Candidates should either have a Masters/ PHD/ Tertiary qualifications in any science, mathematics, technology or engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
