Job Description
Our client seeks a Field Assistant for a FIFO role out of Perth on a 12/9 rotation, it is expected the contract will go unto mid December 2023.
You will be responsible for completing a range of essential field support activities including but not limited to RC sampling, diamond core processing, soil sampling, flagging, pegging, ground truthing and/or mapping support field work. The position involves assisting earthworks activities that include the creation of drill pad, track and other ground disturbance and the rehabilitation of these works. Whilst camp duties include cooking, cleaning, camp maintenance and assisting in camp mobilisation and demobilisation duties on an as required basis.
Ensure all work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements, industry best practice and policies & procedures. Ensure a strong focus on safety is maintained by all contractors through active participation in toolbox meetings, maintaining Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) and Take 5’s on a day-to-day basis. Actively participate in safety meetings on a regular basis, document, and action any issues. Ensure all environmental and safety incidents are reported, and where required investigated. Assist with developing, reviewing, and updating written procedures. Assist the Field Supervisor/PIC and all team members and contractors with the delivery of the Exploration’s work program. Assist with remote camp mobilisation and demobilisation duties. Assist in ensuring all necessary equipment and camp supplies are obtained and allocated to ensure the safe and continuous operation of all field activities. Assist in site and exploration earthworks activities. Assist in exploration drilling activities. Assist in the collection and input of field data and/or photos. This task includes the use of field applications operating on mobile field devices. Assist in the rehabilitation of drill hole, dill pad, track, and ground disturbance activities, including the supervision of earthworks machinery. Assist in other duties as deemed necessary by the Field Supervisor/ PIC to ensure to success of exploration activities Ensure all sampling materials are present prior to commencement of drilling. Provide all sample collection consumables to drill rigs including numbered sample bags (calico and plastic as required). Complete sample collection during drilling operations ensuring the correct procedures is followed and sample loss is kept to a minimum. Ensure at completion of drilling, the hole is plugged, and a hole location peg is placed at collar location and marked with hole ID, final depth, and coordinates. Ensure drill site is left clean of all rubbish and fluid spills are cleaned up. Ensure samples are removed from the site at completion of the drill hole. Complete any sampling required following the appropriate sampling method ensuring representative samples are collected. Complete documentation of samples in sample number book and/or by scanning with barcode scanner. Ensure QAQC standard samples are included in all sample sequences by following a set procedure (instruction will be provided by site staff). Ensure QAQC duplicate samples are included in all sample sequences by following a set procedure (instruction will be provided by site staff). Check sample sequence is complete and consistent with documentation. Label packaged samples with appropriate delivery information. Ensure the timely and accurate dispatch of samples to the nominated laboratory and complete reconciliations of dispatches. Ensure that continuous checks are made throughout the sampling process to ensure no errors or problems arise Assist others to undertake ground disturbance work for exploration activities. Ensure that all GDP (ground disturbance permit) and POW (program of work) guidelines are adhered to. Liaise with earthworks operators to ensure that all earthwork exploration activities are completed in a timely fashion. Provide daily logistical support for the earthworks team Assist with rehabilitation activities including drill hole/ drill pad, track and other ground disturbances identified for rehabilitation. Ensure that all GDP (ground disturbance permit) and POW (program of work) guidelines are adhered to. Complete collar cutting for drill hole rehabilitation. Liaise with the Environment team to ensure guidelines are adhered to. Provide daily logistical support for the earthworks team. Assist in the mobilisation of remote camp facilities. Ensure all camp facilities are maintained and are serviceable. Assist in the daily cleaning of camp facilities including cleaning of common areas and camp rooms. From time-to-time food preparation and cooking for small numbers as directed by the Field Supervisor/PIC Assist in the demobilisation of remote camp facilities About you:
2+ years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in an exploration or mining environment or working remote / rural or with a trade Previous remote exploration experience is preferred Experience in planning, preparation and serving of food in a camp environment Current First Aid Certificate Current ‘C’ Class licence (or equivalent) Experience in the operation and maintenance of four-wheel drive vehicles both on-road and off-road Sound computer skills (MS Office, GIS experience, barcode scanner, mobile field devices Ability to work effectively and safely with all relevant internal and external customers Highly developed interpersonal qualities and communication skills Challenges oneself and uses initiative Strong attention to detail Work effectively as part of a team Strong commitment to confidentiality You must have full work rights to be considered, COVID vaccine mandates apply
