The incumbent will initiate and conduct research, related to the Economics of Cancer Stream., to achieve the objectives of DHE, including the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies and other agencies.

The Research Fellow (Health Economist) will ensure the project work is managed in accordance with human research ethical standards, thus ensuring the safety and protection of research participants and the integrity of research data and the incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the systems and processes for efficient running of related projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing and /or contributing to (as part of a team), agreed research projects.
  • Preparing and/or publishing high quality research in journals of high repute.
  • Participating in professional activities, including attendance at conferences and seminars in his/her field of expertise.
  • Building national reputation, based on growing, focused body of work recognised for quality, excellence and impact.
  • Engaging collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research.
  • Supporting and leading applications for external competitive and other research funding.
  • Supervising honours and/or HDR students with timely completions and productive, high quality outcomes
  • Attending meetings associated with the research project(s)
  • Other duties as specified by the Cancer Stream leader or the Director of Deakin Health Economics.
  • Working independently, using initiative and also working collaboratively within a team setting to achieve outcomes.
  • Complying with the DHE and IHT’s occupational health and safety guidelines in the performance of tasks.
  • Ensuring that an IHT’s standard of environment, health and safety is afforded to their students as is afforded to University staff generally. Research only academic staff are deemed to have principal supervisory duty for undergraduate and postgraduate research student activities.
  • Key selection criteria for this role:

  • Post-graduate qualification in health services research or health economics and/or relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Evidence of research ability: peer-reviewed publications, conference papers, reports, or professional and technical contributions.
  • Experience with, management of datasets, statistical analysis, health economics analysis and modelling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trial-based or modelled economic analyses.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Strong/advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience using statistical software/programming language such as Stata, SPSS or SAS.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both within a team and with minimal supervision when needed.
