Early Childhood Educator
Goodstart Early Learning Red Hill Red Hill, Brisbane
Job Description
Seeking Early Childhood Educators
Goodstart Red Hill
About us:
Goodstart Red Hill is a small community-based service located along the banks of Ithaca Creek, just 10 minutes outside Brisbane’s CBD. The philosophy at Red Hill is inspired by RIE, Forest Schools, Reggio, Montessori, and Steiner, with a rich underlying social and emotional curriculum to complement our play-based programs. Our three rooms provide care for fifty-three children a day, with a Toddler room of twelve children, a Pre-kindy room of nineteen children and a Kindergarten room of twenty-two children.
Our environments are purposeful and beautiful, with an emphasis on nature. Our outdoor environments host as many learning experiences as our indoors: with indoor/outdoor play happening no matter the weather, a flourishing garden, and spacious playgrounds (complete with our cherished camphor laurel tree that provides shade, a home for native bees and a space to hang hammocks, swings or to climb and jump from).
We have a thriving Bush Kindy program: our weekly wanders connect us to the community and give us an opportunity to be present in nature: fording the creek, climbing trees or experiencing the joy of wide empty spaces. Beneficial for both our children and the mental health of our team. Our youngest citizens join us on these adventures: our philosophy prioritises healthy risk, and an image of the child that is capable and competent. The forest often encroaches on our environments: we have a family of lizards and a snoozy possum who are long-term residents. We are also home to a friendly turtle and an energetic therapy-dog-in-training.
Our team are passionate and creative, bringing a variety of strengths to our service. Our ideal roster runs above-ratio, prioritising child and educator wellbeing, and we invest in quality professional development, running seasonal development with a focus on hands and heart learning. We run with a flattened leadership model, where collaboration is the norm and everyone’s voice is valued (including our children’s voices, through our Children’s Council). We have a strong commitment to Reconciliation and diversity and are advocates for a changing Early Childhood sector.
About you:
We are currently recruiting for a full-time educator for the beginning of 2024, with an opportunity to select your preferred age group as we move into a new year. We strongly believe in co-designing the educator role with you, rather than hiring an educator to fill a role.
You will need to hold or be working towards your Early Childhood qualifications, as well as holding a current blue card.
We are seeking educators who are well versed in the socio-emotional development of children, and who are advocates of play-based learning and are comfortable in an outdoor, risk-based environment. Our service only transitions children once per year, and we are looking for educators who are committed to creating deep relationships with children and families, as they would potentially continue to move every year with the same group of children until the transition to Prep.
Our team is searching for someone who enjoys a collaborative leadership structure: with opportunities to make spaces your own, share your passions and have a voice in both practice and program. Our ideal candidate would relish the slower rhythm of our service: progressive meals, one-on-one care moments and deeply embedded rituals are part of our Red Hill day.
A few perks:
Join us at Goodstart Red Hill for the support of a big not-for-profit umbrella company, but the freedom and feel of a small community Kindergarten.
- We pay above award rates (increasing to 5% above award by 2024).
- Be paid for professional development and our seasonal team meetings.
- No uniforms: we advocate for respect in our sector, and we want our team to feel humanised and like an individual (or a uniform allowance if you would prefer to wear a uniform).
- The opportunity to purchase additional annual leave for an even better work/life balance.
- 50% staff discount for your child’s service fees.
- Intentional over-ratioing (~ 1:4 in our Toddler room, 1:6 in our Prekindy room and 1:7 in our Kindergarten room).
- Close to public transport and the city (buses) and flexibility in rosters to support you.
- Regular and generous budgets for art and room resources.
- Extensive non-contact time to develop and extend on your program (a minimum of 5 hours a week), and the flexibility to manage your non-contact time out of hours if you prefer to work from home.
- Be at the forefront of a changing sector: with practice that is ahead of the curve and guided by current developmental research.
- Join a service currently rated ‘Exceeding’ by ACEQA and is striving towards an Excellent rating
