The Gas Taskforce is central to delivering the Government’s objective of ensuring households and businesses have access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy supply.The Taskforce is implementing a number of high-profile measures under the Government’s Gas Fired Recovery Plan that focus on strengthening gas infrastructure planning and delivering market reforms. The Plan includes leading the development of the National Gas Infrastructure Plan, exploring opportunities, barriers and gaps in the gas market to build an Integrated Gas Model and develop a framework for coordinating investments to unlock supply, ensure more efficient transportation and empower gas consumers.The taskforce provides policy analysis and advice on gas, gas markets, related and enabling infrastructure, and technology innovation. Our people collaborate on major projects and work closely together in the key areas of Gas Markets, Modelling and Analysis, Gas Policy and Regulation. Our day-to-day work includes, researching organisationsdelivering briefsanalysing marketsdeveloping policy advice andliaising with a range of external and internal stakeholders.We deliver policy reforms through the Government and the Energy National Cabinet Reform Committee and work closely with our state and territory government counterparts and industry stakeholders to deliver key initiatives.Our successful candidateThere are a number of current and expected Executive Level 1 vacancies within the Gas Taskforce.Our successful candidate will be able to communicate clearly and enjoy developing innovative solutions to policy issues. They will have policy, economics, regulatory or coordination experience and an understanding of Australia’s energy markets and government processes—or demonstrate their potential to develop them.Successful candidates will bring an enquiring mind and are welcome to contribute to strategic discussions in this complex market and policy space. They will demonstrate skills and attributes in the following areas:Supports strategic direction.Achieves results.Cultivates productive working relationships.Displays personal drive and integrity.Communicates with influence.Relevant professional or technical proficiency or the ability to develop these skills.Economic, legal, regulatory, and/or policy experience applicable to energy markets will be highly regarded.The key duties of the position include:As an Assistant Manager within the Gas Taskforce, you will have opportunities to contribute to:Managing a range of projects across gas market modelling, research and analysis, regulatory reform and policy changes.Delivering Australia’s first National Gas Infrastructure Plan, enhanced market hub development plans and new customer empowerment measures.Analysing wholesale gas markets, with a focus on quantitative and qualitative analysis of market prices, operation and outcomes.Developing, analysing and evaluating regulatory and non-regulatory reform options for gas markets in the context of the Commonwealth’s Gas-Fired Recovery Plan and the Energy National Cabinet Reform Committee.Analysing regulatory frameworks and progressing reforms to improve market transparency, hydrogen integration, and gas pipeline regulations.Organising and participating in stakeholder engagement activities with industry, market bodies and state and territory governments.Providing advice to the Minister and senior executive on policy, regulatory and economic reforms, gas supply and prices.Contribute to the leadership of the section and may manage a small team to deliver one or more projects.EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.Baseline security clearance is preferred. The successful may be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level. This recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing positions.
