STEREO 10 - Brisbane Radio Brisbane, Brisbane

Job Description

STEREO 10 - Brisbane Radio has a very long history of being the 'Youth Station' here in South East Queensland, from its heyday in the 1980's. And now in 2025, as the station celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year, STEREO 10 would like to continue that great legacy, by offering profile building opportunities to local Journalism & Media Students. This opportunity will educate students on how to work in a Team environment with other Journalism & Media Students, enabling them to run and manage their own 'Radio Newsroom' to produce a local, community based NEWS Bulletin once a week, that will be broadcast to millions of listeners, right across both Brisbane & South East Queensland and to our Interstate & International listeners.

This opportunity will be very flexible in allowing students to work remotely from their own locations, in their own time and with their own equipment, provided they meet the basic requirements of this weekly bulletin, set down by the stations management. Students will also be encouraged to incorporate this opportunity into the Assessment Criteria of their College or University Faculty to earn the necessary Course Credits they require, and to utilise whatever faculty resources and equipment available to students, where applicable. It's important to also note, that this weekly bulletin will require students to learn about time management and to stick to a deadline, giving them seven days to research, write , audio record and produce these bulletins, so they will be ready to air each week at the same time.

And finally, this weekly bulletin will remain as an ongoing education and training project, allowing students as they progress through their course, to hand the baton over to the next batch of students, starting the following semester or the following year, to ensure this opportunity is ongoing for many more years to come.

Total Number of Positions Available for Students = 5

Role Requirements:

- Researching local & community based stories, events and people.
- Writing NEWS copy in your own words and timing their duration accordingly.
- Audio recording these stories in a clear and professional sounding NEWS Presentation or Reporters voice.
- Working with station staff to compile the audio files into the final NEWS Bulletin which will be broadcast once a week.

Benefits this Role will bring to the Students involved:

- Profile building opportunity for students to get their talents, skills and name out there, as a way of showcasing themselves for future employment or cadetships, in either commercial or public broadcasting newsrooms.
- Course Credits toward College or University studies in Journalism, Media or Communication.
- REAL Life experience working in a NEWS Team environment and recording demo reels of their work for employment opportunities.
- Professional References from Station Staff & Management, as well as Job placement assistance for students, through Media industry contacts.
