About the Team

No one day is the same in RDA Lethality & Survivability (L&S) Systems Engineering. From working alongside users inside the vehicle to, L&S workshops, to writing up technical reports, the job has guaranteed variety. Currently a small team, the L&S Systems Engineering capability is split between Melbourne and Brisbane, with team members spending time between our state-of-the-art facility in Redbank (Milvehcoe – Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence), our project offices in Fortitude Valley (QLD) and Southbank (VIC), as well as working from home. About the Role

The L&S Systems Engineer is responsible for the development of requirement specifications, test plans/reports, contractual compliance reports, and other document deliverables, as well as specialist technical support, to RDA’s various product development programs.

As the L&S Systems Engineer you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

Providing expert advice on applicable L&S standards and compliance;

Performing requirements analysis, derivation and allocation of L&S requirements into the overall system structure;

Collaboration with project design teams to guide them to developing safe and compliant products;

Liaising with regulatory bodies where delegated by the Principal Engineer, and ensuring that regulatory requirements are implemented and complied with;

Supporting the establishment of requirements allocation consistent with the system breakdown structure and within the contracting structure, in terms of allocation of work to entities and sub-contractors;

Defining verification methods and verification descriptions for each requirement in the ABL;

Developing, in conjunction with the V&V teams, the requisite V&V plans that will provide sufficient Objective Quality Evidence (OQE), in order to verify and certify the weapons and survivability systems;

Supporting the establishment of a roadmap for Configuration Item (CI) maturity to ensure that CI’s are mature at the time of production;

Defining and tracking key Technical Performance Measures in conjunction with the Principal L&S Engineer and the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) Lead;

Developing and delivering requisite data for contract compliance (CDRL Data Items) and also for Certification;

Developing and continuously improving processes, methods, tools, and training as required to enable RDA to develop compliant L&S products.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes: 

Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, recognised by The Institute of Engineers Australia;

Minimum 5 years of engineering experience with weapons and/or protection systems, or armored vehicle systems;

Previous Systems Engineering experience;

Fluent in English, with excellent technical writing skill;

Ability to adapt well to change.

Be eligible for an Australian Government Security Clearance and have the capacity to satisfy pre-employment screening;

An ability to travel internationally and interstate when and if required;

Experience in the regulatory certification of Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (NATO/National level) – Desirable;

Work independently, autonomously and with minimal supervision; and

Demonstrates high initiative.
