Job Description

Talent International is searching for an experienced Network Engineer to join our client, a large government department. This role is based in Brisbane CBD on a permanent basis.

About the role:
Provide thorough technical knowledge to the broader IT team to support the constant demands of cost efficiency, availability, business alignment and security of the Enterprise network.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to peers across the business and be heavily involved in an advisor capacity with all related network technology roadmap and investment decision processes.
  • Contribute to planning best of breed networking solutions that deliver benefits across all dimensions (cost, functionality, security etc)
  • Design, build and operate high performance network connectivity to the Cloud and SAAS service providers.
  • Keep abreast of and gain expertise in the evolving technologies relevant to client’s aims. Understanding how new technologies could be applied.
  • Lead technical design discussions that facilitate decision making within the networking and communications operations.
  • Collaborate and drive key network vendors to maximise IT capability and realize business value.
  • Independently solves problems in complex, and unique networks with mixed environments.
  • Ensure compliance to agreed ITIL principles of change, incident and problem management that drive reduced down time and improved customer experience.
  • Ensure the production environment is documented and is in alignment with industry best practice as well as appropriate regulatory controls (eg. Privacy) or other necessary scheme controls (eg. CPS234)
  • Document, share knowledge and mentor network engineers, IT Helpdesk and IT partners to more effectively support their environment.
  • Assist to provide process, configuration & automation tools that drive productivity to reduced operational overheads and improve user experience.
  • Ensure all network devices are kept up to date with firmware and updates, and maintain the following: Cisco Meraki Wired and Wireless networks across ~ 40 locations Cisco Call Manager Cisco Contact Centre Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure DMZ network and ensure appropriate firewall rules are in place OSPF, EiGRP, BGP and MPLS network Cisco ISE environment and ensure relevant security policies are in place Manage the Data centre network and top of rack networking
  • Monitor and optimise internet and network traffic.
  • Requirements:
    Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience as a network/communications engineer in a medium to large organisation
  • Knowledge with Cisco routing and switching technologies including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, Spanning Tree and knowledge of Cisco Call Manager, IP Tel and switching systems
  • Knowledge in Cisco Meraki, Cisco ACI SDN, Cisco DNA, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto Next Generation firewalls, Palo Alto CASB, Citrix Netscaler ADC
  • Knowledge or experience with WAF’s and DDOS protection
  • Experience with APIs, Python, Powershell, Ansible, Rundeck
  • Experience and understanding of PCI compliance and highly regulated industries.
  • Experience working in a complex mission critical environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong customer service orientation, excellent troubleshooting/problem solving skills and good time management skills (ability to be on-call after hours as required)
  • Qualifications

  • Degree in information technology or equivalent industry experience
  • Vendor networking certification/s – Cisco, Palo Alto
  • IT Security certification
