  • About This Opportunity

    This position supports the student experience by providing excellent IT services to students (customers). The role troubleshoots and resolves student IT issues and provides advice to students in support of their use of technology and devices to ensure students can effectively interface with UQ systems.

  • Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide advanced (Tier 2) information and advice on UQ systems, services and support.

  • Provide excellent customer service and IT solutions at an advanced level via multiple channels (face to face and remote) during semester and examination periods, and where appropriate, refer for specialised assistance.

  • Maintain IT equipment and software owned by the library as well as setup hardware, install and update software on client’s personal devices.

  • Provide complex (multi-source/obscure) fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of IT equipment, software (including scripts) and networks.

  • Assist with the delivery and management of library and student services across operational activities and sites as required.

  • Identify and pro-actively contribute ideas and input towards continuous improvement of systems, processes, procedures, policies and work practices including developing and maintaining documentation, knowledge base articles, and statistical reports.

    The Library

    The UQ Library makes information and environments accessible, for teaching and learning, research, inspiration, and enjoyment. The Library aims to equip students for success in a complex information society and digital world. There are 11 libraries across UQ which are busier than ever, there were 6.33m visits to UQ Libraries in 2021. A recent master planning project has demonstrated the need for more and improved study spaces. Digital collections and services continue to be in high demand, and our research support services are sector leading.

    About You

  • Bachelor’s degree with significant computing component (or equivalent); OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

  • Demonstrated customer service experience delivering IT services including interpersonal and oral/written communication skills as well as the ability to liaise effectively with other areas within an organization.

  • Significant experience in providing support for Windows, Unix/Linux or Macintosh operating and mobile devices in a service desk environment including problem-solving skills for multi-source and complex issues.

  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and experience, including the ability to self-motivate and to manage and prioritise your own workload while coordinating a small team.

  • Organised and methodical approach to tasks and attention to detail including flexibility and agility to undertake diverse operational activities across multiple sites.

  • Demonstrated experience working with customers in a high-pressure environment, including adaptability and resilience skills.

  • Desirable

  • Progress towards an industry qualification program in a service desk capacity.

  • Sound understanding of mobile technology platforms (eg IOS & Android).

  • Experience in a tertiary environment.

    These are casual position working approximately 14 hours per week through to December 2023 at HEW Level 5, with a salary of $49.15 per hour (including casual loading) plus superannuation guarantee.
