About the roles

These roles will focus on the resilience of the water and wastewater networks and facilities, from the perspective of whole of system requirements and interdependencies, risk mitigation and exercises to prepare for adverse impacts on the facilities and linear assets. The role is part of the Networks Resilience Programs team and will work closely with other teams and stakeholders both internally and externally to Sydney Water.

Our first opportunity will see you support Operational Risk, this role will see you provide product, operational and maintenance review in risk identification and management for operational risk to improve resilience of the water and wastewater systems to achieve customer, shareholder and regulatory requirements

The second opportunity available is a Flood Modelling position, providing product, operational and maintenance review in flood modelling and resilience management of the water and wastewater systems to achieve customer, shareholder and regulatory requirements

Depending on the team you are assigned to, your duties may include:

  • To provide product, operation &/or maintenance in the management of the water, recycled water, wastewater &/or stormwater systems to achieve customer, shareholder and regulatory requirements within a team environment.
  • Design and Implement Systems Programs – that ensures efficient delivery of water, recycled water, wastewater &/or stormwater services to customers by setting the operating parameters at a local level, operating the network and monitoring as appropriate.
  • Design and Implement Assets Programs (Civil Assets, Mechanical & Electrical Systems &/or Natural Assets) – that ensures that the operating units and network components of the hydraulic system and the treatment components of the treatment system are maintained to achieve their design capability at a specific standard of reliability and availability.
  • Design and Implement Product Programs – that ensures efficient management of product related programs and key business activities. Provide technical expertise in water quality, odour & corrosion, system analysis & treatment processes.

About you

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, science or a related flood modelling discipline OR risk management and/or proven experience in operations, maintenance/renewals or treatment/quality aspects of water &/or recycled water &/or wastewater &/or stormwater systems
  • Well developed problem solving, lateral thinking, communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Well developed skills in dealing with customer, stakeholder & regulator issues
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in treatment processes/product quality &/or operating assets &/or systems for the delivery of water &/or recycled water &/or stormwater product and services that meet customer and stakeholder expectations
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience within nominated focus area/s or technical specialisation/expertise
  • Experience in the measurement, analysis and evaluation of water &/or recycled water &/or wastewater &/or stormwater systems performance and the ability to develop strategies & work programs to improve performance
  • Demonstrated success in working with internal & external service delivery partners to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated self motivation and willingness to accept challenges and deliver assigned projects as part of a team or as an individual
  • Knowledge of the appropriate Regulatory requirements
  • A solid understanding of the application of computerised system &/or maintenance &/or process management systems
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems relevant to water &/or recycled water &/or wastewater &/or stormwater systems
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal & written) and personal qualities (innovation, motivation, self confidence and tact) including ability to translate technical outcomes to operational needs
  • You must have a current driving licence or can obtain one immediately
  • Willing to work outside normal working hours, either from home, office or in the field if required
