Research Assistant

About the opportunity

The Research Assistant is expected to carry out routine tasks fairly autonomously, with some/minimal guidance and/or supervision once process/procedure is agreed upon and/or learnt. Any non-routine, complex matters are to be referred to the supervisor and/or relevant staff member in the school/faculty. The incumbent will be expected to prioritise their own work to meet any deadlines and project needs

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• coordinate activities associated with research projects and work towards ensuring that research activities function smoothly

• write code and conduct econometric analyses (e.g. running regressions and carrying out data analyses, visualizing results in tables and figures, and carrying out computational tasks) using software such as Stata, R and Python

• carry out literature reviews, background and descriptive research, and support the production of research and policy outputs

• carry out routine tasks fairly autonomously, with some/minimal supervision, once procedure is agreed upon and/or learnt

• prioritize own work to meet any deadlines/project needs

About you

• ability to work boath independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

• advanced skills data analysis, using statistical analysis tools, and reporting on research findings

• excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters

• strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods
