About us
Within the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group the Geological Survey and Resource Strategy Division (GSRSD) is responsible for the facilitation of investment through the provision of geoscience data and products and for setting strategic resource policy.
The division manages the Abandoned Mines Team and the Exploration Incentive Scheme including the co-funded drilling program. The division also provides information and products to support the approval of mining tenements and petroleum titles and other related legislative compliance processes.
The Western Australia state government has provided funding to GSRSD through the Climate Action Initiative to update and expand the ‘Western Australia Carbon Dioxide Geological Storage Atlas’. Specifically, this project will update and expand on the original atlas which was published in 2013. The new atlas will cover new geographic areas, stratigraphic intervals and utilise new and existing data and technologies to provide updated information about the potential for CO2 storage in the sedimentary basins of Western Australia.
This part-time Senior Geologist position will complete and report on this project which is scheduled to end on 30 June 2024. The contracts include the possibility of an extension and/or permanency. This part-time role is for 2 days per week

The position
The Senior Geologist leads, manages and undertakes geoscience studies utilising their high-level expertise and experience to create high-quality reports, maps and datasets for publication in relation to elements of petroleum and geothermal systems (such as reservoir, source, seal, temperature, stratigraphy and structure), energy geoscience and carbon capture and storage.
The position is responsible for playing a leading role in communicating geoscientific results to industry, academia, community and government, such as presenting at meetings and technical conferences as well as assisting in staff training and development and provide geoscientific leadership.
This position is located in . Conveniently close distance from public transport and nearby City of Perth parking. You will also enjoy onsite lifestyle facilities, including bike lockers, fully equipped change rooms and personal lockers. You may also need to work at other sites when required.
