The Network Security Engineer – Firewall/Gateway will provide specialist security subject matter engineering expertise (SME) necessary to enable the Gateway subsystem team to devise, develop and maintain reliable, secure, accreditable and economically gateway solutions to meet the needs of Thales Australia customers with first priority for OneSKY.

You will work alongside other specialist engineers and architects to provide Air Services Australia and Defence with the right gateway engineering solution meeting their demanding and complex requirements.

Key areas of general responsibilities are:

  • Technically lead the elaboration of the security component architectures of IP networks and Gateways;
  • Act as the technical coordinator during design, integration and verification phases for all subsystem elements;
  • Ensure technical coordination across a multi-discipline team (application security, SOE design, network engineering, system management engineering design, design of IP based solutions including secured session protocols);
  • Take the lead role in the conduct of Gateway engineering tasks to support OneSKY and other bids and R&D cybersecurity programs, including:The analysis of security requirements.The analysis of security architectures, design artefacts, design constraints and decisionsThe development of subsystem and component solutions of critical infrastructure projects ( OneSKY).The production of engineering reports, specifications and design documents.The implementation and verification of architectures and solutions against established requirements.The presentation and demonstration of solutions to customer representatives.
  • Keep abreast of technology developments and provide evaluation and recommendation on technology selection for gateway solutions;
  • Development of all appropriate documentation to enable the accreditation and certification of solutions from the gateway perspective;
  • Provide advice to internal and external customers on security related issues;
  • Develop Security Gateway solution architectures;
  • Ideally you will possess a combination of:

  • Australian Citizenship (due to the need for clearance)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Extensive Cyber Security experience or in infrastructure and IT.
  • Professional experience in Information Security.
  • Experience in ACSC – Information Security Manual (ISM), Australian Government – Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Defence Security Manual (DSM).
  • Experience in technical leadership (; leading projects from concept to completion).
  • Experience in the design of Cyber Security Infrastructure such as Packet Capture Tap, Data Diode, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Application Proxy Server.
  • Experience in routing, switching, firewalling, data and session encryption technologies (IPSec, SFTP, TLS) and cyber security technologies (DDoS, IDS, IPS, Sandboxing, Application Content Filtering, Security Scanning).
