Food Safety Officer, Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct
The opportunity
The Food Safety Officer at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct will ensure compliance is maintained in all aspects of food safety. They will undertake training of new and current Cherry Creek staff on all aspects of food safety, including hands-on training where needed during daily meal preparation in units at Cherry Creek. The Food Safety Officer will also be required to monitor and provide monthly reports to management on unit’s Food Safety Compliance Book containing temperature records, adherence to cleaning schedules, cleanliness of kitchens and equipment and use of sanitizers and other necessary measures needed to maintain health and hygiene standards.
The Food Safety Officer will work with food suppliers, staff and managers in consultative processes that continually seeks to improve how Cherry Creek meets the food safety, health, and nutritional needs of clients. They will also liaise with the meals contractor to ensure all food related elements and food safety requirements of the contract are being met. The Food Safety Officer will assist with administrative, stores or other general Business Services tasks as required.
The Food Safety Officer will have the opportunity to work in a completely new facility. This opportunity will allow them to apply their own knowledge and know how about Food Safety and Compliance and implement strategies and focusing on best practices. It will give them the opportunity to grow in the role and enhance their career pathways within Youth Justice
To be successful in the role, you will be an organised individual with strong attention to detail and a keen interest in food and kitchen services.
Qualifications: Minimum 5 years’ experience in the food or hospitality industry and sound knowledge of the regulations pertaining to Food Safety is desirable

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department’s obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Vic). Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
Acceptable evidence includes:
1. COVID-19 digital certificate (available via your myGov account)
2. Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
