  • The opportunity:

    As our Business Development Manager, you’ll work in a friendly, dynamic research environment focused on commercialising technologies in drug discovery/development, biomarkers, diagnostics, medical devices, digital health innovation, and biotechnology.

    In this role, you’ll be responsible for identifying and pursuing new opportunities across all research themes. You’ll manage multiple projects at various stages of development and devise, prioritise, and execute commercialisation strategies, including licensing and investment negotiations with commercial partners and investors.

    To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be a proactive, hands-on, and open communicator, working closely with researchers and clinical staff to identify new ideas and manage existing pipeline-approved projects from licensing to partnerships. You’ll also need to be an innovative strategic thinker, able to critically analyse new opportunities, horizon scan, and prioritise appropriate funding avenues. Attention to multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workloads are also key to success.

    Your responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and developing strategic business relationships and market opportunities with the Head of Investments and Partnerships, which add value to MCRI impact profile, including targeting, prospecting and presenting compelling business propositions.
  • Understanding and communicating on the dynamics of relevant biotechnology, pharma and diagnostics markets and healthcare more broadly, including current conditions, future trends and international trends
  • Preparing accurate financial projections and value share models so that MCRI has a good understanding of the commercial opportunities
  • Creating development plans and forecasting targets and growth projections, particularly in the Biotech stream
  • Managing and strengthening MCRI’s biotechnology project pipeline (from IP disclosure to commercialisation/licensing) based on the development plans proposed
  • About you:

    The successful candidate will possess exceptional commercial, communication, and organizational skills, be a diplomatic and pragmatic leader with proven experience managing diverse stakeholders and have a passion for building successful partnerships. Demonstrated experience in the life science, pharmaceutical, medical, biotech, or digital innovation sectors is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, commitment to integrity and sound commercial judgement, and the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple work streams effectively are also essential.

  • Postgraduate qualification in health, medicine or life sciences field
  • An appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of business development experience, training or professional accreditation within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic fields.
  • 5 years experience in technology transfer management in the life sciences field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience communicating to a wide range of stakeholders
