Senior Api Developer

How will I help?

The purpose of this programme (Crystal) is to uplift the International Payments customer experience by preparing the payments ecosystem connect with external parties to access new payment functionalities.

This role will address the development of an in-house solution consisting of new API-based capabilities to onboard a new integration into Westpac and extend data to business & customer facing channels.  This is a combined solution design/development role focusing on Java APIs. Part of the role is to create prototypes to help to confirm requirements and to identify gaps/risks in the proposed solution. The successful candidate needs to have a strong focus in delivering outcomes.

This role exists to support the delivery of Project Crystal & the underlying International Payments application ecosystem.

The Senior Solutions Designer will be required to design, develop and support implementation of enterprise level API-based applications.

On a day-to-day basis they will collaborate across teams and functions, working with Program Managers, Chief Engineers and DevOps Specialists who are collectively driven to provide industry-leading solutions for the bank and its customers. Communicating complex ideas and solutions with technical leaders & business stakeholders, the Senior Solutions Designer will be well equipped to provide technical engineering advice and recommendations.

Key deliverables of this role will include:

• Producing project & individual API technical design documents which may involve technology solutions or changes to service, process or operating models.
• Designing APIs/microservices and the supporting UML & Swagger specs, adhering to REST API design principles.
• Having strong technical knowledge in Java Technologies, RESTful APIs and Microservices.
• Providing technical input to the strategic direction of technology investments.
• Identifying & assisting in mitigating the impact of technology dependencies on solution delivery.
• Developing & implementing technology solutions in line with best practices and to agreed timeframes.
• Performing detailed analysis of user stories/requirements to align technology solutions with Business objectives.
• Engaging with Architects, Consultants, Infrastructure and Security Specialists to provide a key link between the technical needs of the business and the solution design.
• Identifying & evaluating risks associated with the project and develop mitigation strategies.
• Evaluating progress and identify improvements to inform future projects.

What do I need?

• Must have strong exposure to REST API design & development.
• Must have knowledge of scripting.
• Must have a very technical background.
• Prior experience in developing and implementing APIs that achieve project objectives
• Prior experience in solution design and working as a solution designer across multiple programs
• Background in software development & agile methodologies.
• Extensive experience in solution designs focused on application integration on complex infrastructures ideally in financial services and banking environments
• Min 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Good written and verbal communication skills
