The Agency and Role
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia’s audiovisual cultural institution. The NFSA collection includes over 4 million items including films, television and radio programs, videos, audio recordings and video games. The collection also includes contextual materials such as costumes, scripts, props, artefacts, photographs and promotional materials. Public programs and services ensure that the collection is available for enjoyment, learning, research and for re-use by creators. In the digital age, the NFSA’s wealth of stories will be increasingly available across the country, and on demand as set out in NFSA Strategic Direction 2022-25.
The Senior Manager, Digital Platforms role is responsible for leading multiple teams including Application and Web Developers, ServiceNow Developers, and Media Asset Management/Collection Systems Administrators, to help deliver NFSA’s digital programs by commissioning, developing and maintaining NFSA’s emerging ecosystem of digital platforms. Our platforms provide innovative ways to manage, maintain, analyse, discover, and engage with the collection. This includes providing support for the delivery of digital experiences for a wide range of audiences in experiencing Australia’s national audio-visual collection. Across all digital touch points the role will contribute significantly to NFSA’s vision, mission, and programs by leading and managing the teams in the development and administration of internally developed or commissioned, and off the shelf digital platforms.
Job Details
Under broad direction undertake the following duties:
- Lead, develop and support the day-to-day functions of several small functional teams, monitoring progress and following through to deliver quality outcomes.
- Provide leadership and mentorship in complex problem solving and issues management for digital projects and technologies supporting access to the NFSA collection and digital environments.
- Manage project teams for optimal return-on-investment, and coordinate and delegate cross-project initiatives
- Lead the internal, and externally provided, application/web development technical solutions for NFSA’s digital platforms.
- Develop and manage a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Develop, in conjunction with key stakeholders, and deliver against a future strategy for the next generation of digital products for the NFSA.
- Foster and promote a culture of collaboration to facilitate continuous improvement and innovation across the NFSA.
- Ensure relevant digital initiatives are fully integrated into the strategic-planning process for leadership commitment, resource allocation and execution.
- Manage the Digital Platforms cost centre.
- Participate in, and sometimes lead, relevant NFSA working groups.
- Deliver regular reporting, insights and analysis of key performance data.
- Mentor and support team members.
Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required:
- Demonstrated capability through past employment experience and relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications is required for this role.
- Demonstrated experience managing small teams, while employing a coaching and mentoring approach to achieve high performance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience facilitating workshops.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as a leader and mentor.
- Experience in DAMS/MAMS, CRM, ServiceNow, AV Codecs, Cloud/File Delivery Platforms, Streaming Services and Online CMSs is desirable.
Selection Criteria

- Extensive experience in leading the development of new digital products.
- Outstanding track record in the delivery of on-time and on-budget, public facing digital experiences.
- Strong communication and technical storytelling skills across a variety of mediums.
- Experience in the development of partnerships and collaborations.
- Excellent experience in managing people to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
- An interest in audiovisual culture.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this position you must:
- Be an Australian Citizen;
- Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance; and
- Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check.
