  • The Role

    The Surveillance and Control System Program Office (S&CSPO) is seeking a Technical Specialist to provide engineering and technical sustainment support within its Air Battlespace Management (ABM) Asset Management Unit (AMU), which consists of a diverse team of APS, military, contracted resources and Australian Industry partners.

    Under the direction of the System Sustainment and Assurance Manager, the Platform Technical Lead will be responsible for providing engineering and technical sustainment support and functions including:

  • Conducting governance and assurance activities.
  • Exercising assigned engineering authority.
  • Planning, organising, executing and monitoring.
  • Providing clear and concise communications, using both written and verbal forms.
  • Management of risk.
  • Preparation of correspondence, briefs and reports as required.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Resolution of issues through sound analysis, good judgement and the application of initiative.
  • Operating within the boundaries of legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, and ensuring compliance.
  • About our Team

    The Technical Specialist is housed within the Air Battlespace Management (ABM) Asset Management Unit (AMU) within the Surveillance and Control System Program Office (S&CSPO) located at RAAF Williamtown NSW (just outside Newcastle). The ABM AMU works in partnership with Air Force and Industry to sustain and maintain operational relevance of ABM capability to the nation.

    As an ABM AMU Technical Specialist, you will assist in the delivery of engineering, technical, planning and assurance functions in conjunction with performance management, configuration management and systems of systems integration. To achieve this, you will need work closely with Air Force and Industry to understand requirements, prioritise and deliver ABMS capability outcomes.

    The ABM AMU is seeking applicants who are able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to apply established engineering/technical principles, techniques and methods to solve problems relating to the design, development, integration and evaluation of Defence Capabilities.

    Key attributes and experience we are looking for:

  • Skills and experience in Defence systems engineering, ideally with insight into Air Battlespace Management systems.
  • Be motivated, organised, proactive, and display good management skills.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, including emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrate the ability to inform and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Think innovatively to find opportunities for continuous improvement, understanding the ‘bigger picture’ to identify any emerging opportunities or threats.
  • Respond flexibly to changing situations, including using sound judgement.
  • Demonstrates an ability to manage simple to moderately complex system installations, integration and technical regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of engineering disciplines.
