The KU Permanent Relief Team
Our KU Permanent Relief Team works across several services to cover leave taken by permanent staff, playing a pivotal role in supporting our services in their success. The Permanent Relief Team is a close-knit network of early childhood education professionals and cooks who are passionate about teaching and caring for children. This team is expanding are a looking for a Cook to add value to this dynamic and collaborative team.
The Role
This is a permanent, part time position that will see you working 6 hours per day, Monday to Friday covering blocks of leave taken our permanent Cooks in our KU Services. You will travel to a variety of KU Services where required so therefore, it is essential you hold a driver’s license and have access to a car; you will receive a favourable travel allowance.
Duties throughout your allocations will include:
- Managing the kitchen
- Ordering of stock (from preferred suppliers of fruit, vegetables and groceries)
- Planning and preparing all nutritious menus from scratch
- Assisting in small group experiences with the children and introducing them to the wonderful world of cooking
- Ensuring health and safety are always maintained at a very high standard
To be successful in this position you will:
- be a qualified Cook with a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
- Hold food safety and food handling qualifications
- Have experience of ordering and controlling stock
- Have experience in preparing meals to cater for varying diets and special food requirements of children
- Have an interest in sustainable practices, growing, harvesting, and preparing food grown at our centres
- Have an interest in cooking with children and educators and sharing skills and knowledge to enhance the educational program.
- Hold a valid driver licence and access to a registered motor vehicle
- Be a passionate cook who loves instilling a passion for food in children
- Hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and attend a pre employment medical assessment
You will work alongside strong and experienced Centre Directors and teams of highly motivated educators who value working in the early childhood sector.
