Job Title: Technical Sales Specialist (Virtual) – Synthetic Biology
Reports to: Biosciences Technical Sales Manager ANZ
Location: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane
What will you do?
The position manages the sales of a strategic product portfolio in an assigned geography in accordance with approved sales and marketing plans. The Synthetic Biology Technical Sales Specialist (Virtual) will comprehend and utilize their product knowledge & expertise to be able to provide business building skills to successfully promote and consummate the sale of Company products and services to achieve or exceed the assigned territory sales plan.
The Technical Sales Specialist will also be the primary driver of business development at assigned major customer call points to penetrate and grow current and new business. The Sales Specialist will be recognized as a technical leader and business development leader within the sales force that drives strategic objectives and adoption of new products while working cross functionally across the organization!
Position summary:
- Selling and promoting the Synthetic Biology portfolio including gene synthesis, custom oligos, cloning & assembly and genome editing in a defined territory (Australia/New Zealand).
- Managing existing accounts and prospecting for new business that will contribute to sales growth.
- Meeting and striving to exceed sales targets.
- Providing information to and from the territory, including providing written reports as requested
- Promoting the Employer’s image and product reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Servicing and Managing the Customer Base
- Produce Forward Call Cycle/Plan.
- Make regular customer calls either with or without the local Sales person.
- Identify new business opportunities and work with the Technical Sales Manager to develop sales potential.
- Respond to enquiries and complaints that will reinforce the company’s position.
- Sales Promotion
- Follow the directive selling program to maximise the sales of the targeted products.
- Attend Trade Exhibitions as required to generate leads and prospects for the company’s products.
- Conduct customer specific promotions to encourage sales growth and the development of a positive company position.
- Develop and execute technology seminars applicable to the account research focus.
- Product / Market Knowledge
- Constantly develop product knowledge through company literature and other independent sources of technical information.
- Obtain and report information of market trends, competitive promotions and other activities from the market that may aid the sales and marketing activity.
- Actively take part in internal product training and the external scientific community activities.
- Budgets / Targets
- Essential to meet Revenue and Gross Profit sales targets as set each year for the defined territory and contribute to the achievement of the region goals.
- Meet sales targets as set for specific promotional activities.
- Administration and Reports
- Maintain accurate and detailed customer records on the company CRM.
- Provide weekly sale reports to be made to the Technical Sales Manager.
- All other requested reports by due dates.
- Key Account Management
- Identify Key Accounts in defined territory that will contribute significantly to the sales growth in the territory.
- Work closely with the Technical Sales Manager and Marketing to develop strategies that will develop the sales potential of the Key Accounts.
- Provide reports to the entire sales team on the development of the Key Accounts.
- Other Duties
- May be required to perform other related duties as required.
- Adhere to OHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment
Experience and skills
- Experience and Education
- Educated as BSc. Level or above.
- At least two years relevant experience in sales and account relationship management preferred.
- At least three years experience in the Synthetic biology workspace

- Well developed written and verbal communication skills
- Professional presentation
- Self-management
- Proven time management
- Desirable Skills
- A Master Degree or PhD in life sciences is highly desirable
- Strategic and tactical market development skills.
- Presentation skills that can be utilized internally and in the marketplace.
- Demonstrated ability to be effective in a globally matrixed organization
- Able to work independently with limited day-to-day management supervision.
- Infrequent interstate travel may be required (training, events and/or customer visits)
