The Research Fellow position involves contributing to one or more areas of research in the Discovery Project , titled “The impact of immigrant theatre artists on Australian culture -”.
The Research Fellow will work with the lead CI, Professor Julian Meyrick.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Conduct research that contributes to the research objectives of the Discovery Project, most particularly:
- To identify, track and represent in new ways, the extensive personal and professional networks of theatre artists who immigrated to Australia from – drawing on digital resources such as The Australian Bureau of Statistics, TROVE, AusStage, AusLit and The Australian Dictionary of Biography.
- To research changing conceptions of Australian culture in the interwar, war and reconstruction period, with particular focus on how immigrant artists influenced the pluralist understanding of Australian arts and culture today.
- To research the origins of cultural policy in Australia in the immediate post-war period, with particular focus on the role of immigrant and local artists in the creation of new types of political engagement with government.
- Develop a good publication record (Grade 1) or maintain a good publication record of (Grade 2) in high impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals and to seek competitive funding.
- Contribute research skills to the goals of the research project as appropriate.
- Manage the preparation and formulation of publications, presentations and research reports arising from the research project.
This is a part-time (0.3FTE), fixed term (two years) position based at the Griffith University Southbank campus.
The successful candidate will be appointed at either Grade 1 or 2 depending on experience, skills and qualifications.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent qualifications/work experience in a relevant field.
In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:
- Experience in a specified area of research (Grade 1), or extensive research experience including leadership responsibility (Grade 2).
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- High level interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain competitive research funding.
- Development of publication record (Grade 1), or well established record of academic publishing (Grade 2).
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
