Are you lookingfor an opportunity to inform food and nutrition policy through anAustralian-first research project?
Our Food andNutrition Team here at the Telethon Kids Institute are seeking a SeniorResearch Officer to take a lead role in their new ‘Food Atlas’ project.Bridging the disciplines of nutrition, public health, geography and urbanplanning, their unique and innovative ‘Food Atlas’ project aims tocomprehensively map, measure and monitor food access across Western Australia,creating a ‘Food Atlas’ that can be upscaled to a national level. This uniquelevel of evidence will be used by State and Local Governments to inform food and nutrition policy and surveillance, supportplanning decisions and future policy direction to create equitable,health-promoting communities that foster healthy eating.
The Role
Closely working with our Team Lead, you will be responsible for delivering and overseeinghigh quality research in support of the ‘Food Atlas’ project. This will involvemanaging the day-to-day running of the project, whilst leading the dataanalysis process and dissemination of project outcomes.
This position will see yourely on your strong stakeholder engagement skills as you will drive and buildeffective relationships with municipalities and state government.
Some of yourresponsibilities will involve:
- Developing, refining, testing and promoting the ‘Food Atlas’ online spatial tool.
- Overseeing data analyses processes.
- Implementing secure and robust project governance processes and controls.
- Creating and disseminating outputs that are useful and engaging for different stakeholder groups.
- Based at our modern office in Nedlands, this part-timeposition (0.6FTE) will be offered for 14 months in the first instance.
About You
We are looking for someonewith a background in geography, public health or a related discipline with asound understanding of food environments including their measurement andimpact on dietary intake, along with the following skills and experience:
Experience using ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Suite (ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS online) or a similar program.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Self-management and high level of personal motivation.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Experience working in local or state government would be beneficial but is not essential for this role.
