Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 Project aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from Mtpa to Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

 

New Opportunities – Tanami’s Information Technology Team
In 2021, Newmont formed a strategic alliance with Caterpillar Inc. to deliver a fully connected automated, zero carbon emitting, end-to-end mining system.

 

Critical to our company’s vision for zero emissions mining, Tanami is testing and developing industry-first battery electric haulage technology for underground mining, to support the future deployment of battery autonomous technology and a battery electric zero-emissions underground fleet. 

 

To support our Tanami Operations as we embark on this exciting journey, we are expanding our Site Information Technology team and seeking technology professionals who are passionate about developing and implementing world-leading underground mining technology. 

 

The Role
As the Mining Technology Superintendent you will manage and deliver technology services and projects to support at our Newmont Tanami Operation by partnering with the mining and processing departments. You will assist in the implementation of regional strategies to ensure all technology activities provide the best possible user experience, shortest possible incident resolution time, and maximum service uptime through the efficient operation of the site network.

 

Accountabilities will include

  • Lead a site technology team to deliver services to the agreed standards (quality and timeliness). This will include managing team performance and capability to ensure the team evolves with the business needs.
  • Provide technology leadership and support to operations in a manner that produces results, is transparent in nature and efficiently uses resources in alignment with management strategy.
  • Provide leadership in the site day-to-day operations of technology, while ensuring that regional, site and global projects are planned and synchronised locally.
  • Manage the site technology operating model and ensure consistency and alignment across the business for the services and support provided in each operating location.
  • Ensure team members are efficiently deployed and undertake appropriate training and development so they are skilled to efficiently perform allocated duties.
  • Provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for your team while ensuring work outputs are in line with strategic plans and budgets.
  • Ensure all reporting is in accordance with the required standard and is completed and distributed on time. This reporting will include compliance with the Newmont Maintenance Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Ensure compliance and ongoing development of the Department’s Management Operating System (MOS).
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety, and environmental and social responsibility practices and awareness.

About You
You will have significant prior experience in Information Technology, preferably in a mining environment including time at a team leadership / supervisory level, combined with relevant tertiary qualifications and additional post graduate certifications and competencies. 
 

You have an understanding of mining production technologies, including MineStar products for autonomous hauling, open pit networks (Wireless and LTE), radio communication solutions.
 

Your demonstrable experience in management of teams, effective and proficient communication skills and the ability to prioritise and succeed in an environment of competing priorities will be a requisite for this position. You will be adept at influencing and liaising with all levels of the organisation, a confident communicator and able to influence and encourage others.
