Overview of Branch and Section:
The Australian Border Force (ABF) is an operationally independent body under the Home Affairs portfolio. The ABF is responsible for operational border, investigations, compliance, detention and enforcement functions and continues to be Australia’s customs service. We operate in a rapidly evolving global environment. We must perform to the highest standards while remaining agile to anticipate and respond to emerging threats and capitalise on opportunities to partner with domestic and international border, customs, immigration, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies.
Operations Northern Territory (NT) is responsible for the conduct of efficient and effective customs and migration, surveillance, patrol, and response activities in the Northern Territory’s remote onshore and littoral operating domains. Operations NT is responsible for maintaining control of persons, goods, vessels, and small craft through activities in the Northern Region’s inshore maritime environment outside of seaport limits. Operations NT provides services through border enforcement and operational activities on cross-border movements of people and goods in a variety of areas, including international airports, seaports, and cargo facilities. Operations NT plays a vital role in processing travellers and goods to protect Australia’s border from the entry of illegal and harmful goods and those intending to commit migration fraud or threaten the national interest. These activities will include processing travellers and goods arriving and departing Australia outside of major metropolitan airports and seaports, such as vessels and small craft at remote seaports and light aircraft at regional airfields.
Our officers are operationally focused, uniformed and patrol our air and seaports, remote locations, cargo centres and Australia’s extended maritime domain. Our officers also perform specialist functions relating to investigation, compliance, and immigration detention operations. Australian Border Force officers are multi-skilled, mobile, agile, and responsive. Our work is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Officers may undertake shift work as part of their role.
