Job Description

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley  is an extraordinarily beautiful and sparsely populated area in the northeast corner of Western Australia (WA), and is known as one of the world’s last wilderness frontiers. As a global tourism attraction, it is known for luxury accommodation, great food and friendly locals, and is an amazing and very unique part of Australia. About the positon:

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley in the role of Ranger. You will be responsible for assisting to initiate and implement enforcement of the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, Litter Act 1979, Caravan and Camping Grounds Act 1995, Animal Welfare Act 2020, Local Government Act 1995 and other legislation in accordance with Council Policy and Local Laws. The role will focus on ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as well as providing high standards of service to the organisation and you will be supervised and supported by our Senior Ranger & Emergency Services Coordinator. Rangers who are employed in a fulltime capacity and work a rotating roster including on-call and weekends will be paid extra penalty payments. The full package (not including penalties) will be between $101,602 – $105,311 (depending on experience) per annum.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, Litter Act 1979 and Local Government Act 1995 and associated regulations and local laws;
  • Strong organisational skills and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Demonstrated negotiation, problems solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • High attention to detail and ability to prepare documentation in line with relevant situational requirements;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A strong work ethic with motivation to work in challenging environments; and
  • Ability to travel between town sites within the Shire boundaries.

    Sadly this position is  not eligible  for any assistance with seeking housing. However if you are relocating to Kununurra, the Shire will pay a reasonable amount toward relocation costs.
