Job Description
The Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) role is a key hands on, multi-skilled role responsible for ensuring resilience and reliability of key journeys on our customer facing systems with a specific focus on databases.
The Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) will work with SRE engineering squads that will in turn, work both within the SRE CoE and may be seeded into specific tribes that have ownership of key assets. The SRE Engineers within the CoE will drive SRE initiatives, act as product owners and be hands on with development activities associated with the imbedded squads.

As the Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will:
- Enhancing existing and assist in developing new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement.
- Anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
- Apply your knowledge of the business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals.
- Create new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
- Learn through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning opportunities.
- Maneuver comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics.
- Adapt your approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations and act as a role model for others.
What are we looking for? You will:
- Have exceptional knowledge of Microsoft SQL (2012-2019) and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
- Be knowledgeable about SQL performance tuning and query optimization.
- Be experienced in managing SQL in the public cloud and migration to it.
- Be eager to analyze a problem to understand why and how it failed and how to resolve for the future.
- Have the ability to troubleshoot methodically, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, and when necessary, capacity to think outside of the box to resolve complex issues.
- Be experienced with backup solutions / Disaster Recovery with specifics to databases.
- Be comfortable to discuss and recommend innovative technical developments to improve quality of all workloads and support infrastructure to better meet our customer’s needs with a focus on resilience and reliability.
- Experience with Event Driven Architecture leveraging CDC, Debezium and Kafka.
- Experience with analysis work using Redgate, Splunk and other systems to build patterns between metrics and events.
Nice to have
- Have good knowledge of PostgresSQL.
- Be experienced with Agile methodologies and working in an Agile development environment.
- Experience with database migration strategies and migrating complex database solutions to the cloud.
- Experience with DevOps practices and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD). pipelines for deployment.
- Ability to design and implement scalable and highly available solutions for migrated applications.
- Assist in designing complex and/or innovative engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a problem solution or design brief.
- Identify new external developments and / or emerging issues within an area of technology or business function and evaluate their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization
