Laboratory Technician – Products and Prototyping

Work Location: Dawson Rd, Perth Airport

Roster: Monday to Friday

In this position you will have the opportunity to develop advanced polymer membranes for green energy production, storage, and conversion. The successful candidate will contribute through product testing, technical support and technical service activities in a laboratory setting.

We are looking for either a practical chemist with a couple of years of experience or a meticulous lab technician looking for a challenge. Multi skilled Lab Technicians with excellent communication skills, a great work ethic and is a team player are encouraged to apply. Someone that can think outside the box and does not mind being hands-on!

Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, you will contribute to building excellent working relationships with all customers, external and internal. In time, you will be able to provide support and recommend changes to enhance manufacturing efficiencies.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Work with the team to develop an understanding of the core design concepts and materials-related properties related to the project
  • Conduct experimental laboratory-based trials within FFI’s laboratory facilities to evaluate various manufacturing methods related to the relevant green technologies
  • Prepare samples of composite materials and perform characterisation using a range of laboratory-based analytical techniques under the guidance of relevant team members
  • Document all activities to facilitate progress tracking
  • Analyse and interpret experimental data to draw key trends and findings, and disseminate those experimental findings to the wider team
  • Work with the team to engage with vendors for the sourcing of materials and, where applicable, provide input into the development of products suited to FFI needs

Qualifications and skills required:

  • A background in organic or industrial chemistry, materials science or engineering disciplines is preferred, experienced laboratory technicians with experience in synthesising polymers should apply
  • Experience working in a hand-on role such as a laboratory or workshop
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
  • Strong understanding of FFI Freedom Culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Has a friendly “can do” attitude
  • Exhibits self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative
  • Exhibit enthusiasm
  • Highly effective team player
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills and other analytical equipment software desired
  • Strong focus on safety and maintaining a clean working environment a must
