Requirement Summary This procurement is for two (2) Network and Infrastructure Technical Writers
The role will be required to work in a team-based environment and will take a significant leading role as part of a team in providing technical direction in the support of major ICT projects and day to day network operations. This will require responsibility for project concept development, design, installation, configuration, security, and operational support of ICT networks.
On occasion, the person will be required to work closely with other senior staff in the organisation. This may include participation and support in interactions with senior managers and executives in requirements gathering, concept development, reporting, and demonstration or presentations. An ability to communicate technical information with influence to a senior audience is valuable. There may also a requirement to collaborate with various specialist and user groups within Head Office and the Regional Offices.
Technical Writer will be responsible for creating technical documents, diagrams and manuals, explain complex information in a clear and concise manner and working with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure accuracy of information.
The successful candidate will comply with all the organisations work, health and safety policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.Detailed RequirementsWithin broad guidelines the candidate will be required to do the following (not limited to):

  • Generate professional documentation related to network infrastructure (Arista / Cisco / Palo Alto / F5 Networks), including high level, detailed and conceptual network diagrams, as-built and operational documentation for various audiences including technical and non-technical staff.
  • Generate professional documentation relation to data centre compute and storage (Dell, Cisco, Netapp) infrastructure, including high level, detailed and conceptual infrastructure diagrams, as built and operational documentation for various audiences including technical and non technical staff.
  • Strong investigative skills to source the required details that need to be included in artefacts being produced. Demonstrate a co-operative approach to supply of information and practical assistance to other IT specialists within the the organisations
  • Gather technical requirements for the purpose of designing a Data Centre environment to be built and commissioned to production.
  • Implementation and migration planning detail and support
  • Prepare and assist with execution of test plans for purpose of validating newly deployed Data Centre Compute and Storage services once the deployment is complete in order to ensure new infrastructures are capable of carrying production work loads.
  • Work with stakeholders to plan, write, and execute Methods of Procedure documents outlining steps to seamlessly migrate production services from legacy infrastructure to the newly deployed Data Centre infrastructure and services.
  • Perform Knowledge Transfer Training on Data Centre network and infrastructure designs and platforms
  • Experience of working with all levels of the business from the engineering deck to the architecture and strategy suite.
  • Demonstrate and apply expertise and experience in modern ICT Infrastructure technologies within an enterprise data centre environment.
  • Work with operational teams to prepare infrastructure lifecycle management plans.
  • Based on designs and implementation plans, prepare system recovery guides and instructions that would support restoration of systems or full Disaster Recovery event.

Knowledge and Skills RequiredMandatory

  • Ability to engage stakeholder to gather technical requirements for the purpose of designing a Data Centre Compute and Storage service to be deployed.
  • Advance understanding of Data Centre infrastructure high level and low level designs.
  • Write High and Low Level Design documents based on gathered requirements for guidance and reference during and after Compute and Storage deployments
  • Ability to prepare detailed implementation and migration plans to support change records being submitted
  • Experience with working with all levels of the business from the engineering deck to the architecture and strategy suite.
  • Demonstrate and apply expertise and experience in modern ICT Network technologies; specifically:
    • Enterprise Storage (Dell EMC storage arrays, Fibre based storage area networks, NFS, CIFS, Oracle ZFS, PureStorage)
    • VMware Virtualisation (ESX)
    • Enterprise Backup (Commvault, VMware data protection, Versity, Tivoli Storage Area Manager)
    • Physical Servers (Dell EMC Data Centre Modular, Dell Edge Servers etc)
    • Fibre channel technology including storage arrays and fibre channel switching
  • Experienced user or Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Advanced communications skills in being able to extract information from technical resources and capture that in detailed drawings and documents

Desirable

  • The candidate has either Baseline Security or NV1 clearance from
  • Knowledge of F5 Network Load Balancers, Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco and Arista Switches / Routers
  • Knowledge of Dell / Cisco data centre compute infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Dell / NetApp / PowerStore dedicated data centre data storage appliances.
  • Broad knowledge of Data Centre Backup and Archie
  • Experience with multiple data centre structured cabling products and vendors
  • Be available to support limited after hours migrations / relocations / commissioning’s
  • General awareness of enterprise ICT virtualisation and storage principles and methods (eg. VMware clusters, SANs).
