We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Secondary Systems Engineer (Telecommunications) at our Perth Head Office on a permanent full-time basis.
About this role
As the Senior Secondary Systems Engineer (Telecommunications) you will be required to:
Undertake concept and detailed operational telecommunications design tasks of high complexity Prepare detailed and complex design scopes and estimates for the operational telecommunications systems component of the full range of transmission and distribution projects (of all levels of complexity) and coordinate with other specialist groups internal to Western Power Prepare detailed engineering specifications, analyse tenders, manage external design contracts and initiate purchase of equipment Provide engineering consultancy advice to internal stakeholders and external customers to assist them in options analysis, risk analysis, scope definition and implementation for the full range of transmission and distribution projects (of all levels of complexity) Review customer and external designs for compliance with Technical Rules and other legislative compliance requirements; Have significant input into new technologies and new designs applicable to operational telecommunications systems; Apply Safety in Design principles in the preparation of all concept and detailed design activities Provide technical leadership and coaching to colleagues working in graduate and experienced design roles Deliver services to commercially competitive standards for technical excellence, safety, environmental quality, cost and customer satisfaction Operate commercially and competitively in meeting quality, time and budget standards. Also drive value in the business and ensure delivery of risk managed outputs About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:
Degree in electrical or electronic engineering recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a professional engineer Eligibility for corporate membership of Engineers Australia Extensive knowledge of transmission and distribution secondary systems concept and detailed design, and estimating processes Sound knowledge of power system primary and secondary facilities Knowledge of operational telecommunication system design for two or more of the following: Fixed & Mobile Radio (VHF-SHF); Cable Carrier Systems (Metallic/Optical Fibre); Mux Networks; High Speed Digital Transmission; Power Line Carrier systems; Teleprotection systems; High level understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, compliance & regulations, Technical Rules and procedures applicable to secondary systems Detailed understanding and knowledge of current technological developments in the field of protection, automation & telecommunication Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’ Joining Western Power
