Job Description

  • Inner Brisbane Location
  • Monday to Friday, business hours
  • 6 Month Contract
  • Our Queensland State Government client is responsible for implementing and administering a rigorous integrity framework to the industry. The team is recruiting a Chemist to be involved in the provision of scientific analytical services.

    Key duties:

  • Undertake analytical activities to screen for and confirm the presence of drugs and prohibited substances in samples
  • Prepare scientific data associated with screening and confirmatory analysis incorporating effective LIMS and present for quality review in line with the methodology
  • Participate in Research and Development activities related to drug and prohibited substance isolation, detection and associated data processing system developments, within appropriate quality standard constraints.
  • Maintain and operate scientific equipment and develop a good working knowledge of the scientific principles that relate to analytical methods and procedures
  • Comply with NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation requirements, including quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedures, completion of relevant statistics and ensuring that the samples meet forensic requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of new testing instrumentation and methods where required.
  • The successful candidate will:

  • The recent completion of an undergraduate level tertiary qualification in Chemistry
  • Ability to learn essential analytical and deductive skills necessary for succeeding in modern analytical chemistry
  • Some technical laboratory skills in sample handling would be an advantage but not required
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team’s objectives.

    Relevant on the job training will be provided to the successful applicant.
