What’s on offer?

We currently have a vacancy for a Laboratory Field Technician to join the team at Fulton Hogan based at our Mile End site. This position will suit either entry level or experienced candidates looking to take the next step in their career.

You’ll be Accountable for

The successful candidate will be responsible for field testing, asphalt testing and field compaction data management to relevant standard methods in our NATA Laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, your responsibilities will include;

• Work independently with a laying crew for sampling and cutting cores in placed asphalt to test for density check.

• Testing of field core samples and reporting to technical and laying team.

• Testing of asphalt/aggregates samples and helping other in laboratory when required.

• Managing density gauge data and report back to compaction team.

• Management of reporting, record keeping and calibrations including reporting non-conforming product.

• The handling and management of chemicals in line with relevant standards

• Maintain housekeeping of laboratory, surrounds, lab/field equipment at high standard and conduct procedures safely.

• Maintain the laboratory in accordance with NATA requirements.

• Travel will be required, based on the needs of the business.

• Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and achieve strict deadlines

• Professional communication, written and interpersonal skills

• Good work ethic, professional, and positive attitude, confident and reliable

• Commitment to workplace safety, quality, punctuality, reliability, respect for others and to work as part of an efficient team

• Current and valid Driver’s Licence

• Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques (is advantageous)

• Previous experience in heavy industries or an interest in this field of work

• Be willing to travel as away work will be required

• Ideally you will have an understanding of the asphalt, cement of quarries industries. Having a demonstrated knowledge of Australian standards for laboratories would be viewed favourably, but is not essential as full training will be provided. You will be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
