The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow in Island Restoration to join the Department of Biological Sciences and Associate Professor Rohan Clarke’s research group. The Research Fellow will take a lead role in the ecological restoration of Browse Island off the Kimberley coast, Western Australia; seeking to respond to pervasive threats (invasive house mice and weeds), secure significant turtle rookeries and promote the recolonisation of tropical seabirds to this island. This role will work closely with agency and industry partners to establish both on-ground project implementation and restoration science.

The Research Fellow will be responsible for the implementation and delivery of the Browse Island restoration program under the direction of the project management team as well as conducting research in the field of island restoration under limited supervision as a member of a team. This will include research activities on Browse Island to further the field of island restoration in remote settings.

This position is suited to a highly motivated individual who holds a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline. The successful candidate will ideally have demonstrated knowledge of ecological restoration practices, especially in island settings, with pest vertebrates or with seabirds, as well as demonstrated program delivery experience with the ability to implement on-ground ecological or conservation management activities.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.

Be part of our story. Work with us to #ChangeIt.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs“.

The role is based at Monash University’s Clayton campus in Melbourne, Victoria, however some travel and fieldwork is required.
