We have multiple permanent opportunities for Power Workers (Trade Assistant) in our Customer Service and Overhead teams located at Mareeba and are inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates.

The role:

As a Power Worker (Trade Assistant) in the Customer Service or Overhead team, you will:

  • Be responsible for assisting tradespeople in performing support duties under general supervision including assisting in the construction, maintenance and associated activities on overhead/underground electrical network.
  • Provide support as a safety observer and actively identify and implement risk control measures where needed.
  • Drive and operate vehicles, plant, tools and equipment, while also maintaining and checking the operation of equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain both material and stock levels, ensuring adequate stock is on hand.
  • Possess the ability to follow directions and appreciate the physical requirements of carrying out manual work with the willingness to learn.
  • Possess a HR or HC Drivers Licence (desirable only)
  • Possess a High Risk Work Licence (forklift, dogman, rigger, EWP >11m) (desirable only)
  • Possess a Vehicle Loading Crane and/or Slewing Mobile Crane High Risk Work licence (desirable only)

In addition, to become a member of the Overhead team, recent experience with a C2 crane/borer ticket in the distribution industry would be advantageous.

Critical to your success in the role is your:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of an electricity distribution/transmission system, including construction and maintenance of the electrical network.
  • Working knowledge of Electricity Act & Regulations, Workplace Health & Safety Act and Regulations, and other relevant statutory acts & regulations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills to develop good working relationships with team members and external customers. You must have the ability to identify and understand customer needs. 
  • Available for call out or emergency work and overtime as required.
  • Willing to travel to surrounding areas from time to time to undertake work. 
  • Current ‘C’ class open Drives Licence.

The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in the position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2020.
