We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic, experienced Indigenous reporter to join our local team in Alice Springs with boundless passion for Central Australia and stories that make a difference. The role involves some shift and weekend work and will see you chasing stories right across the stunning landscapes and unique communities of Central Australia.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working with an experienced, dedicated team, you’ll create content for broadcast, social media and online platforms to engage and inform audiences in the region and across the country.

You’ll also:

  • Produce and present news bulletins, digital stories, Q&A’s, interviews and packages across all platforms, including breaking and in-depth stories.
  • Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences. 
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan and communicate with relevant stakeholders as required.
  • In consultation with colleagues, identify and develop local content that can be shared with other content teams in R&L and across the ABC on multiple platforms.
  • About You

    You are agile, flexible and keen to explore deeper into stories that are the topic of the day. You have qualifications or experience in breaking and original content with a desire to give local perspectives to national and international stories. To be successful in the role, you will also have: 

  • A passion for amplifying the voices of First Nations people in Central Australia
  • Demonstrated sound experience in live presentation and broadcast. 
  • Proficient editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise reliable judgement.
  • Detailed understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience
