About the Role

Exciting opportunities exist at the Analyst level for persons deeply interested in international economics and security issues to join the International Economics and Security Division (IESD) within Treasury. IESD shapes policy at the intersection of economics and security to reflect Australia’s national interest in promoting domestic and international prosperity and security.

The Analyst positions will support Australia’s international engagement, either bilaterally, or through various international fora, such as the G20 or APEC, or international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Working as part of a team, the Analyst may:

  • Contribute to strategic policy analysis on Treasury’s value-add in the economic and national security discourse – working closely with senior Treasury officials and internal and external stakeholders to contribute to policy on economic prosperity.
  • Support senior officials at international meetings, which may involve overnight meetings or international travel.
    Our ideal candidate should:
  • Have excellent analytical ability;
  • Be a team player, with a willingness to contribute to the Division’s broader culture;
  • Possess excellent people skills, including being a positive team player and developing and sustaining networks and strong working relationships across government and internally;
  • Display good communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to engage with high-level stakeholders including the Treasurer’s office, members of the Executive, numerous areas within Treasury and other government agencies; and
  • Demonstrate good organisation skills.

  • Strong economic skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience in international fora
  • Candidates are required to have strong security awareness. A current Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance is preferred, however applicants will also be considered on the basis the applicant agree to commence NV2 clearance immediately.

    Academic qualifications in economics or studies in international relations, law and politics are desirable.
