Our local Environment Team delivers complex environmental assessments for key clients including ACT Government, DFAT, Defence and EvoEnergy, and is supported by GHDs national network of professionals. We are looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist Impact Assessment to facilitate and lead the delivery of environmental approvals across the region and beyond. Given our regional presence and office locations, this role may be based in Canberra, Wollongong, Nowra, Bega, or Wagga Wagga. Whether its a sea or tree change you are after, or an organisational change, GHD is looking to support the candidate in exceling within the bounds of its employee owned global enterprise and regional capabilities.

The team you will be a part of is diverse and lively. We foster a range of skills and capabilities in environmental impact assessment, sustainability and climate change, circular economy, contamination assessment and environmental project management. We also share a space and engage heavily with our international development assistance, water infrastructure, and civil engineering teams to fulfil our strategic imperatives, amongst the many other regional teams we house at GHD.

The successful candidate will be involved in:

Leading technical impact assessments within existing projects, such as the EIS for the ACT Government food organics and garden organics (FOGO) facility, and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for various regional projects.

Establishing and/or maintaining relationship networks with industry professionals and key clients in alignment with our group strategy.

Contribute to the teams successes by leading the pursuit of appropriate technical opportunities, and implementing quality technical delivery on projects through to completion.

Strengthening our teams connection to GHDs national technical services network for environmental impact assessment, including access to virtual events, in-person conferences, training and upskilling opportunities, etc.

Providing technical leadership to our Junior Environmental Scientists on projects, and undertaking technical reviews of deliverables.

Developing regional, national and international internal networks with GHD professionals to enhance your knowledge and opportunities.

Attend regional industry events and client meetings to engage on regional and federal matters and represent our teams capability.

Opportunities to work on impact assessments of large infrastructure projects throughout the Pacific, including engaging with and working alongside our office staff in Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and New Zealand.

Being part of an agile and dynamic regional team, where some travel may be required to engage face to face (where virtual meetings are not appropriate).

Who are we looking for?

Relevant industry experience in impact assessments (5+ years), and relevant tertiary education (Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science/ Planning/Engineering or similar)

An individual who can provide technical leadership both in delivery and with a business development focus.

Experience in providing technical recommendations and reviews, including proposal phase and project delivery.

Ability to influence others, project management experience would be strongly desired.

Strong judgement and decisiveness, having a bias for action.

An appreciation for quality assurance and control on advice and reporting.

Willingness and experience in engaging with industry and key clients to support opportunities and delivery.
