Senior Geologist Orebody Knowledge

We are currently seeking a Senior Geologist-Orebody Knowledge to join our Magnetite Expansion & Growth Geology team in Whyalla. In this role you will be assisting the Exploration Geology Superintendent in converting our pipeline of exploration targets in the Middleback Ranges into resources to underpin the transformation of the company into a world class magnetite and green steel producer. 

Your main responsibilities will include:

Maintain a safe working environment for all personnel

De-risking geological uncertainty and variability across the portfolio of exploration projects through effective resource definition and exploration drill programs

To create, refine and peer review geological models within the team

Collaborate with resource geologists and mining engineers to ensure geological models are fit for purpose

Maintain and develop further technical competencies within the team to ensure responsibilities are carried out at the highest level 

Assist in delivering the annual exploration plan in line with the company’s strategy and targets

Build capability/skills to support future growth and identify areas for team and individual development and seek/provide ongoing coaching

You will have proven experience in a similar role contributing to the safe operation within an exploration and mining environment. Your ability to liaise with key stakeholders and safety focus will form a strong foundation for your success. 

You will also possess the following: 

6+ Years’ experience in exploration and mining

Bachelor of Science in Geology, Honours preferred 

Significant experience in exploration with exposure to iron ore, base and precious metals 

Proficient with Leapfrog Geo and other 3D modelling software packages

Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously when required 

Strong analytical, research, creative thinking, and effective communication skills 

Residential, FIFO and DIDO arrangements are available

Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney. 
The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
